I’m a proud native New Yorker and I always feel like I’m a pro when it comes to finding places to shoot in the city. I normally shoot in Soho since I live and work around there, but I also try to explore different neighborhoods because it’s a great way to get a new setting and get to know another part of the city. I’ve decided to list five of my favorite places to shoot your fashion outfits and what makes these locations great. Yes, I know most of them are obvious especially if you do a quick google search, but I list my thoughts on how they are different from each other.

  1. Soho: I shoot75% of my outfits in Soho because I live only 15 minutes away. I love Soho because there are so many great locations to take pictures. The cobble stone streets are one of my favorite features and definitely make an appearance every now and then on my feed. I also love that there are stairs in random streets from store fronts so you can be a little more edgier and get different poses. There are also a lot of retailers and shops so they can also make for great background especially if you are shooting a fashion outfit.
  2. Central Park: This is probably a no brainer because the possibilities are endless at Central Park! It’s definitely huge so you won’t have to worry about finding a good location to shoot at. The only downside is that there’s normally a lot of people here, but it’s also easy to find some isolated areas. If you like bridges and benches, this is the place for you! I also think this is great to use all year round because the weather is gorgeous for the summer and spring. You can also capture the leaves for a fall atmosphere and of course the snow during the winter.
  3. Brooklyn Bridge: I have yet to do a photoshoot at Brooklyn Bridge but this is definitely on my list this year! I love the iconic arches and wires of the bridges because they make for excellent NYC backdrops. The difficulty is going at a time where there aren’t a lot of people on it since I like clean backgrounds. I might go early one morning or even at a random weekday afternoon.
  4. Bryant Park: I love Bryant Park because it’s close to Times Square and that’s always an iconic place to shoot in New York. The park is a great size since it’s smaller than Central Park so you won’t get too overwhelmed. There is also a library right near the park so you can use the stairs for photos. It does get busy throughout the day, but if you want to capture the hustle and bustle of the city, this is the place for you!
  5. Dumbo: I have taken pictures at Dumbo quite a few times and absolutely love it because it’s basically the Soho of Manhattan. The bridge obviously makes a beautiful backdrop and I am sure you’ve seen many bloggers take their photos there. Dumbo also has different vibe then soho and is not as packed so if you have a full day to spare, I would suggest Dumbo for pictures.

I hope you guys found this list helpful. If you are ever in NYC, definitely check these placees out and if you are from NYC, let me know what your favorite location is to shoot at!

I would love to have the backdrop of NYC for my pics. Alas I live in St. Louis, but we have some sweet spots as well. I bet you have a ton of fun scouting locations 😉

I am in love with NYC and all the amazing areas to shoot. I feel like every corner, every street, is perfect for a shoot (but that’s coming from Orange County which is filled with fields and greenery). If I am ever in NY anytime soon, I definitely will need to shoot at these locations you mentioned. I love this blouse with the built in choker and the sleeves. The burgundy coat is a great contrast against the black top as well! xoxo, Christine

I’ve only shot in 3 out of the 5 places you mentioned!! I’ve been dying to shoot on the Brooklyn Bridge so I definitely aim to make that happen this year. Other than that, I love shooting in Soho!! The cobblestone is such a nice addition! I didn’t know you live so close to Soho! We should definitely get together some time 🙂

I’m hoping to come up to NYC later this year and shoot, so maybe I can check out some of these places again! Been to all of them for a quick visit (except Central Park, stayed there for ages), but I’ll have to go back and shoot some looks!

So overdue for a trip to NYC, and when I go I am definitely using this list!! Haven’t visited NYC since I started blogging, but am so jealous of all the gorgeous city scapes! I do have to ask though… where/how do you change looks? In LA everyone drives and has a car… but in NYC, do you carry multiple looks around? LOL. Thanks for sharing babe!

Oh I miss NYC so much, wish I had started blogging when I was still there. These are some great spots to do photoshoots for sure, as long as you can manage to get away from the crowd which you seem to do a great job at.

There’s definitely places to shoot that are more quiet. I haven’t done a shoot in the crazy areas like Times Square but I think you can always find a day and time that works for any place 😉

I’ve only visited NY twice, and both times were only for an afternoon while driving through. It’s been years since I’ve even been there, and considering the fact that it’s really only a six-ish hour drive from me, I gotta make a trip happen soon! I’m sure I would get my fair share of fabulous photos in with your location suggestions! 🙂

I’ve never been! I mean, we drove through Albany once as a child on our way to Niagra Falls, Canada, but that was pretty much it. Hoping to make it there next year – I’ll keep these stops in mind!

I love NYC. This is a great post. There are so so many places to photograph in NYC it’s hard to choose. These are great spots and round up. I used to go to NYC few times a year when I lived only an hour flight away and can’t wait to return. 🙂 Have a great week babe. LA is picturesque, but NYC is more my vibe. I love a really busy condensed city. So many amazing alleys, pockets and city views.
