Strategies To Find Inner Peace

We all have different sides to ourselves: some that others see clearly, some that we hide and some that we aren’t even aware of. I am learning to embrace all versions of myself. I love being positive and happy and I will admit I sometimes see the world with rose colored lenses. But I am learning to embrace all versions of myself and have been allowing myself to feel all the emotions, not just the happy ones.

We often strive for happiness, but what is happiness really? To me, it’s an emotion, but emotions are also fleeting. Instead, I try to strive for peace, inner peace to be exact. When I am at peace with myself in all levels including spiritually, mentally and emotionally, I feel as though my soul is intact, despite any noise and chaos that may happen around me. I am not allowing the external to affect my internal and that in itself in powerful.

Just like happiness, I truly believe that inner peace is a choice. You can choose to incorporate that into your life and when it comes down to it, it’s all about taking actionable steps to make this a habit. The beauty of life is we are evolving and growing everyday. As humans, we have a million layers to ourselves that are we are either currently uncovering or still developing. What you experience may be overwhelming at times but your relationship with yourself is probably the most important relationship you’ll ever have. So spend time getting to know yourself and embrace the journey of self discovery and self love.

Strategies To Find Inner Peace

  • Focus your attention on things you can control: It is easy to allow things that you can’t control affect your mood and mentality. We often stress about things that are out of our control, so we need to learn to redirect that focus on what we can control. The key is to remember is not what happens to you, but how you react to it.
  • Spend time alone: A lot of can feel uncomfortable with our own company but until we learn to be happy and comfortable alone, we will never understand the power of inner peace. There is no right or wrong way to do this so find what works for you. This can be meditating, going for a walk, spending time in nature, reading, etc.
  • Practice gratitude: Practicing gratitude can immensely change your mood and change your life for the better. When you express gratitude, you are taking time to look at your life in a bigger picture and you become more aware of what you have and realize that you are enough, you are doing fine and you are blessed.
  • Avoid negative talk and self pity: We are not our thoughts. When we learn to change the narrative that we are telling ourselves, then we are able to change what’s happening internally. Whenever you feel that negative voice increase its volume, you have the power to mute it. The second you feel you are welcoming self pity, become aware of it and then take accountability instead of allowing it to consume you.
  • Surround yourself with good, loving people: Inner peace is tied to who you surround yourself with so remember to be cautious of who has access to your energy. When you love your network and interactions, you will feel lighter in your conversations and leave them feeling lifted.
