Ep 105: Adrian Bermeo- LatinX Expressionist Painter from Queens, NY – How He Got into Graffiti and Art- Growing up in NYC and Role of Community – Advice and Life Lessons from a Native New Yorker

Today’s guest is Adrian Bermeo, a LatinX expressionist painter born and bred in Queens NY, with origins in graffiti. Being a proud native New Yorker with a background of Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian descent, many of his characters carry interpretations of misrepresented figures and explosive energies that have influenced his life through family, community and world travel.  As an interdisciplinary artist, Bermeo’s work encompasses community outreach events, gallery exhibits, private collections both international and domestic and fundraising auctions at The Queens Museum for Elmhurst Hospital during 2020’s pandemic.
In this episode, from one native New Yorker to another, we talk about the unique experiences and perspectives of what it was like growing up in the city, and what makes the city so special. Adrian explains how he was introduced to graffiti and how that discovery has put him in the art journey he is on now on. He also explains his mindset when it comes to putting himself and his art out there, some advice to those who feeling stuck, the role of community and why he’s so passionate about remaining true to his values and why he continues to pay tribute to his upbringing and the city. He also reveals a confession in the end that other city residents can definitely relate to as well as an insight that many New Yorkers can appreciate, so you don’t want to miss out on that!
