5 TIPS ON HOW TO HAVE A BETTER DAY

Happiness is a concept that I have been studying a lot recently. After much research, I have come to the conclusion that happiness is a feeling and emotion, but it’s not necessarily a state of being. What I mean by that is, you can wake up one day feeling happy, but very much so feel the complete opposite at the end of the day or the next day. Therefore, happiness isn’t linear, but I do believe happiness is a choice. You can wake up and decide to have a good day and to feel joy. Though this is easier said than done, if you practice it enough in addition to expressing gratitude, I promise the universe will reward you with abundance. This concept can also be applied to personal growth, mental health and self work because all require effort and we have to remember that we are a work in progress.

I’m personally in a better mood than I was last week and I wanted to share some simple but not too obvious ways to have a better day. I know sometimes it’s easy to give into a bad mood or funk especially when something goes wrong and I know it can have a domino effect to the rest of the day. The challenge and key is to acknowledge that starting point when you start to not feel your best and to consciously change that. I encourage you all to take matters into your own hands because we have the power to create our own reality and it all starts with our thoughts.

Once you have mastered changing your thoughts, you will then see how that affects your feelings and then you can do some actions to continue the path of having a better day. Below are some of my simple ways to changing my bad mood to a better one.

5 TIPS ON HOW TO HAVE A BETTER DAY

  1. Wear something nice, preferably lighter in color: I’m sure all of you have at least one nice item in your closet that just makes you feel HOT. I am obsessed with the above yellow number from Few Moda because not only does it fit me like a glove, but the bright yellow color instantly makes me feel joy.
  2. Put on perfume: Sometimes even if I have nowhere to go, I’ll spray on my favorite fragrance and something about the scent lifts me up. I guess there’s a correlation with smelling good and feeling good!
  3. Smile for no reason: Okay this might be an obvious one, but studies have shown that even if you’re in a bad mood, the act of smiling singles our brain to release endorphins, the feel good hormones, resulting in us feeling happier.
  4. Buy flowers: I never used to buy myself flowers. I only gifted flowers to others but ever since I started to visit my local flower shop, I’ve made it a habit to always have flowers in my home. I’ve been drawn to daisies and sunflowers and seeing them in my home always puts a smile on my face.
  5. Break into your favorite dance move: I’ve always loved dancing but I don’t remember the last time I looked into the mirror and basically let loose. I did this the other day and I have no idea what move I was trying to do but I couldn’t help but laugh at myself for the pure silliness and my failed attempt at trying to be cool.

Let me know if you guys have tried any and let me know if you have some simple tips you personally recommend!

I’ve been listening to Beyonce’s Homecoming album and I just burst out into the movies she did at her Coachella concert.
It makes me so happy (and exhausted). I love live music so the album is right up my street.

To me, something that helps me a lot is spending time gardening: even if it’s just to take off the weed from the rest of the plants. It’s quite therapeutical 🙂
That and spending quality time with my family <3
Thanks for the tips Marian!

Thank you for sharing what’s worked for you. People are sharing more of what’s been making them down lately, which I can certainly understand. We all need an outlet and to connect with others and know that others are experiencing rough patches too, but it’s refreshing to see something positive. With two babies, it’s easy for me to get into a bad mood. Especially if my toddler is in a mood of her own, it complicates my daily tasks and I can easily get frustrated. Lately, I’ve been waking up earlier than everyone to get a head start and to mediate and set a good mindset for the day and it’s worked tremendously. Thanks again for sharing, babe. You look beautiful in yellow by the way!

Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I could only imagine how difficult it is with two babies but I’m glad to hear you’re waking up earlier to dedicate some morning time to yourself!!

I totally agree with you about putting on some perfume. I have a really sensitive nose, so I find that wearing my favorite perfume, or lighting a candle lifts my mood!

Happiness is a slippery slope for sure. It really is challenging to remain happy when experiencing multiple and or long term hardship which many people are these days and even before the pandemic. For me I think laughing helps it releases feel good chemicals in the body. If I need a quick laugh I hope on TT there is always something funny on there.
