NOLCHA SHOWS RECAP

I attended the Nolcha Shows on Monday, September 12th for New York Fashion Week. I wanted to give a brief recap of my thoughts and experience. Above is a gallery with pictures that I took on my iphone. Since I was taking pictures and recording videos for Instagram stories and my camera died, I had to rely on my iphone for the photos. I know they are not the best quality, but I think it still gives you a great, candid view of the looks I saw on the runway.

Below are the details with the shows and designers information:

    • 11am – “Ones To Watch” Runway Show
*Featuring: Jody Bell | Minan Wong | Olivia B | NY School of Design | Alice Yim | Just In Case

    • 2pm – Lu Yang Runway Show IG: @luyangbyyanglu
    • 5pm – Main Runway Show

Overall, I would say I was very pleased to attend the Nolcha Shows because it featured emerging and independent designers, rather than huge names in the fashion industry. As much as I would die to attend a Marc Jacobs or Jeremy Scott show, I still respect, admire and support upcoming designers. It’s important to remember all the looks was for the Spring 2017 Collection, so most of the designs were bright colors. I noticed a lot of monochromatic looks with a more causal and relaxed appeal. There were a balance of flowy items with more fitted and long pieces.

I must say my favorite show had to be Lu Yang Runway Show. I loved how he used geometric shapes and simple colors for his designs. It was very edgy and different and I can definitely see people wear his pieces for events. I like designs that are unique and a bit wild, but also wearable. I definitely thought Lu Yang stood out from the other designers in terms of style. I thought he did an amazing job in the whole aesthetic and theme of the show, which included the models’ makeup, music choice and clothing.

It’s a bit difficult for me to say what the trends are for next spring since I don’t think I’ve seen enough from all the designers to say there’s a specific theme or look. I think mainly it’s because these are upcoming designers with different backgrounds, so they have varied sources of inspiration and style preferences. I definitely will take this week to look over all the collections that were covered during this year’s fashion week to see if there’s a noticeable trend for next spring. If you attended NYFW, let me know what your thoughts were. What was your favorite look and what do you think people will love for next spring?
